I personally love this scene from the show Kung-Fu. This is a pivotal moment for young Cain as Master Po gives Cain a lesson in following his own path and his heart. From a Jedi perspective, I notice that in today’s modern world of social media and the whole of society that we are to busy intruding in others affairs instead of worrying about making sure that we are taking care of our own. This I think has been a major key player into the division of our society today because we meddle in each other’s lives trying to impose our own ideas and beliefs down the throats of others instead of looking to see what makes us who we are on an individual basis. This is why meditation and introspective is vitally important in the Jedi Path as well as other major spiritual traditions. This meddling in others life has also made it quick to hastily make nasty comments to each other without first thinking about the words that we are speaking and how our words affect others lives. We take for granted the power of the internet and we abuse it and each other, we have come to rely on instant gratification even if it last but a second and it has become like drug abuse. Our mouths are big and our opinions are even bigger.
I personally believe that each of us each day should take at least an hour or two to just sit quietly in a state of metacognition (Thinking about thinking) and ask ourselves why we think the way we do and why do we treat people the way we do. I think through this we would come to have a much deeper spiritual understanding of ourselves both inside and out and we would become more attuned to the Force that lives within and is generated by others. In doing this I believe that we can come to make metacognition an intricate practice in our lives and make us more mindful of every word and action that comes from us. As a wise Greek Philosopher once said:
An unexamined life is not worth living – Socrates
